Maybe I should attempt to be more eloquent.  As you may or may not know, minutes ago California decided that discrimination based on who someone goes home to at the end of the night is okay.  Oh, except for those 18,000 of you that already did get married, I guess you're okay, since, you know...our bad.

I couldn't be more infuriated right now if I tried.

I think that people are so blinded by religion and by being in a majority.  There is a separation of church & state--I know--shocking!--considering that our ol' boy GWBush sort of forgot this & fucked up what little progress the Clinton administration made.

Let me make myself clear--because I don't think the hysterical religious are understanding this quite clearly--NO ONE IS ASKING YOUR PRECIOUS LITTLE RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS TO PERFORM THESE MARRIAGES.  SHIT, they're not even asking you to RECOGNIZE THEM (so you can stay in your tiny bubbles of ignorance)...all they are asking for are for the same rights as EVERY OTHER citizen in this country.  The right to visit their loved ones in the hospital, inheritence, health care, etc... that all you wingnuts consider "sacred"--your religious marriage DOES NOT provide these things...so why do you care?!  This is purely on a state level yet people are trying to turn it into a moral issue.  Besides the fact that I think it is absolutely nutters for anyone to consider LOVE immoral, it is NOT a moral issue.  I know and love FAR TOO MANY people in this country that deserve more than this.  All they want is the ability to love freely and share the benefits and rights given to citizens of this country who are married.

HOW can this country allow people like Spencer and Heidi from The Hills, like people on that awful old Fox (which in and of itself is hilarious) reality TV show "Married By America", like those who get married just to stay in this COUNTRY--how are all of them ALLOWED when these people who actually love each other, cannot. I don't call this upholding the sacred sacrament of marriage.  These shows, these hodge-podged marriages make a mockery out of marriage--NOT two women or two men who love each other!

And how do your political and social ideologies allow you in good conscious to let 18,000 people get married but not anyone else that wants to?  It's heartless and unfair.  EARTH TO AMERICA -- HAVE YOU SEEN A FAIR GRANDFATHER CLAUSE BEFORE?  There's no such thing as "Separate but Equal"--and this is even worse.

To say I am upset is an understatement--this is a total disregard for a group that is a minority in this country when those of us in the majority have a CIVIC DUTY to ensure that those not in that majority are taken care for and governed the same way & equally.

I am ashamed of California & the people of that state--and ANY state--that find it their right to take away the rights of others.  SHAME ON YOU.

I don't usually talk about serious things here.  Generally I leave these sort of tirades for in-person conversations, where the conversations can be engaged...but right now I am just too furious.  All the warmth and happiness I have felt since Obama was elected has absolutely been shattered by some of the petty, ignorant, unintelligent, uninformed jabs and statements people have been making.  Looking on Facebook...I never realized how many of my friends were not only conservative (which I have NO problem with, mind you), but RACIST and completely believing simply what they are told without doing their own, unbiased investigation.  Let me be clear, I can totally respect someone who has rational convictions and reasoning for their voting for McCain--some people vote more in certain issues than the others.  I can even accept people still being convinced that Obama doesn't have enough experience to be president (though I disagree--hello JFK!--and then subsequently hope that they in no way support Sarah Palin)...however, I cannot and WILL NOT tolerate the outright HATE SPEECH being spewn from the mouths of so many who are simply listening to someone else's agenda and twisted lies in order to veil--albeit thinly--their racism.

I have seen some of the most disgusting things pop up on my facebook newsfeed. 
(again, these are NOT FROM ME.  I DO NOT IN ANY WAY condone these statements!) Including:

"is THIS JUST IN!  President Obama has changed our national bird from the American Eagle to the Fried Chicken"
"is buying paint to make sure the White House stays white..."
"is readying herself for the fall of Israel and the rise of Mohammad"
"is all white people must report to the cotton fields tomorrow for orientation... your's truly President Obama."
"is pretty sure that Obama is the downfall of Western Civilization"
"thinks Americans have officially lost it.  White people are fucked."
"thinks first its the Muslim...next you know we'll have some f*g in office, painting the White House Pink! LOL"
"is once you go black you never go back...from the depths of the ghetto!  America will turn into a country of ghettos."
"Give terrorism a chance. Vote Obama!"

I HAVE NEVER in my LIFE been SO astounded by how UTTERLY ridiculous and FUCKED UP this is.  WHO ARE YOU to say that because a black man is now president that this country is somehow headed for automatic ruin?  Now, correct me if I'm wrong...but haven't we BEEN THERE for the past 8 YEARS?!  There's NO way things could get much worse than they are now.

-why is it wrong to be black?
-is it then bad to be hispanic/asian/etc...i.e. anything other than white?
-why is America suddenly a nation of strictly christians?  what about the athiests, the muslims, the buddhists, the agnostics?  This country was based on a FREEDOM of RELIGION, p.s.

Disgruntled McCain supports keep saying that socialism is going to happen under Obama...I'm sorry but what do you think this whole buying up of Wall Street is?!  The government now owns the banks...that's socialism.  Why?  Because Bush called for consistent and frequent deregulation of the finance systems.

Now, I get it, Democrats have control in the house & senate...but they don't have a filibuster-proof majority and we ALL got here because of the actions of our president.  And there is NO reason to somehow equate the decisions of an outgoing government to Barack Obama's RACE.  RACE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW HE WILL RUN THIS COUNTRY.

AND DO NOT say that he only won because of a supposed group of "ignorants" mobilizing and voting...there are FAR TOO MANY intelligent people...Republicans & Democrats & Independents alike that  voted for Obama.  You also CANNOT say that these people merely voted for him to have a black man in the WH...because if that was the case...how come one of the several other former black candidates DIDN'T win before him?!

AND... don't get me STARTED on people a.) using the word "Muslim" as a thinly-veiled replacement for "black", but b.) that somehow FREEDOM OF RELIGION IS MAGICALLY NONEXISTENT EVEN IF HE WAS?!

...I am SICKENED.  If you don't like Obama for his own views on the war or fiscal issues, that is one thing...but to hate on someone for the color of their SKIN...something that is merely a collection of pigmentations that happened because of evolution and protection from the sun...then you're clearly ignorant and have no RIGHT to the rights this country has afforded you.

AND let's talk about Proposition 8 in California...which was somehow passed into law with only a 51% majority vote.  I'm sorry...but shouldn't laws have an overwhelming majority?  Like, isn't it necessary to get a 2/3rd majority to make something a law in Washington?  WHY is that different elsewhere in the country?

-why is it wrong to be gay?  to love someone outside of the context of their gender or sex?
-why do some people believe they have the right to govern others outside of their own socialized subset?

ALSO, people have NO RIGHT to believe that this is an issue that should be decided by the government.  LOVE CANNOT BE GOVERNED.  THERE IS A SEPARATION BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE.

I am so unbelievably angry that I can't even go on.  I have so much I want to say, but it makes me all so upset that I can't even function.  HATE HAS NO PLACE IN POLITICS.  SEPARATE IS NOT EQUAL.  NO ONE IN AMERICA IS A SECOND CLASS CITIZEN.

...I am so sad that this lack of perception and belief in such hate exists in one of the world's most powerful nations.  It's time to move forward, America.  WE ARE ALL EQUAL.  WE ARE ALL AMERICANS.  WE CAN ALL WORK TOGETHER TO BRING THIS COUNTRY INTO THE 21st CENTURY.  IF ONLY WE COULD LOVE EACH OTHER AND STOP THE DIVISIVE NATURE OF HATE.
